Ano Nuevo - where the elephant seals gather to have babies.
“It’s raining.” My husband, Mike, stated matter-of-factly, as we stepped outside our front door on Sunday morning. As the annual Ano Nuevo hike to see the breeding grounds of the Northern Elephant Seals is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the hiking yogi’s calendar, I doubted whether the inclement weather would have deterred hike organizer, Tim Custis."

The hike this month was at Castle Rock State Park. A 4.7 mile partial loop near the highest point in the Santa Cruz Mountains. One of the best hikes in the Bay Area, it offers outstanding views west, pretty oaks, woods, and chaparral, and unique sandstone formations.

The chill in the air as we left the car-park was a palpable reminder of Autumn on its way. There were just four of us. Read more...

Big Basin
As we drove through dappled shadows along a winding mountain road lined by some of the tallest trees on Earth, little did we realize that soon we would be lost in those same Redwood forests. Admittedly, there are few nicer places to be wandering on a mild August afternoon in California. Read more...

Henry W. Coe State Park is the largest state park in northern California and protects over 86,000 acres of wildlands in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. It is located southeast of San Jose in the Mount Hamilton Range, which separates Santa Clara Valley (a.k.a. "Silicon Valley") from the San Joaquin Valley.

Within Coe Park are the headwaters of Coyote Creek, long stretches of the Pacheco and Orestimba creeks, and a 23,300-acre wilderness area. It is a place of high ridges, separated by deep canyons; with hills of oak, pine, madrone, mazanita, and chamise; with seasonal streams and stock ponds; a place of remoteness and peace, yet so near to millions of people. Visit http://www.coepark.org/ or http://www.coestatepark.com/ for more details.

The serpentine grasslands of Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve are famous for their magnificent displays of wildflowers each spring. The park's location, within easy access to Interstate 280 and Edgewood Road, makes this beautiful display readily accessible to the population centers of the San Francisco Peninsula. The Park's 467 acres of woodlands and grasslands afford wonderful hiking and sightseeing opportunities.

On Jan 9th we will take a short drive to Shoreline Park at the far north end of San Antonio Ave. at the very edge of the bay. It is a flat hike through salt dikes. Birds are plentiful, if you haven't done this, you will not be disappointed in how cool it is. Easy hike, easy drive. Dress for warmth and maybe some wind. Use your head if it's raining, we will likely cancel.

Sunday Lazy Day at the Beach
Attention Yoga hikers and others who want to have some fun and meet others. Next YIY hike is to Seacliff State Beach. We will carpool from the studio at around 10am, August 22nd, a Sunday. Or you can meet us at the beach. Bring swim gear, boogie boards, umbrellas, food and drink, whatever makes your day at the beach fine. This will be a full day, lazy once we get there. Contact Laurel .....redleafive@yahoo.com with any questions. We would like you to tell us if you are interested. Thanks Tim and Laurel

We hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend. The next hike will be on Sunday July 18. We will meet at the studio at 10am. It will be important to car pool this time because of the lack of parking space at the hike location. Once again we will be heading to the Woodside area. This hike is just a short distance past Huddart Park entrance where the last two hikes were held. This hike is moderate terrain and should be easy for anyone. It will be approximately four hours in length with drive time. Come and see the rubber ducks and other interesting things.

We will celebrate our one year anniversary with a trip to the beach in August so stay tuned for details. We want to see everyone for this one.

6/13/04

Our next YIY hike will be similar to May's hike. We will drive to Huddart Park again, but this time hike a different route to the Phleger Estate. Easy hike, about 5 miles. Plan for a nice picnic after the hike in the park itself. Bring your frisbee. This is a short drive and an easy hike. We hope to see you, meet at YIY parking lot at 10 am June 13th.
Laurel and Tim

Easter 2004, a small and friendly group of us hiked Henry Coe State Park. Hiked to Wilson Peak, 2651 el. and saw panoramic views surrounding us on all sides. Surprised ten or so wild pigs running below us in single file. We were fortunate to welcome Risto Helkiö from Finland to our group and he took the photo on his cell phone.
