Gwendoline Hunt died in November 2004 in a drowning accident in New Zealand. Gwendoline made a tremendous impression on our yoga community at our studio Yoga is Youthfulness when she came to teach a workshop with Lino Miele in November 2001. She was an inspiration not just because of her age but because of her skill in teaching. Her way was always firm and somehow gentle, just like her adjustments. We had been looking forward to her coming again but it is not to be. We will always remember her. You can see a memorial page for her memory on ashtanga.com

One of the most powerful things for me was the flow of his vocal instruction which reinforced the flow of movement and breath occuring during the vinyasa or asana. By participating in the ashtanga practice with him, I was able to experience the grounding and the singing of his voice and bring these two qualities into my practice. Now as I practice, I try to remember the great depth of his ujjayi breathing, the song of his voice as he counted each breath, each inhale, each exhale, always flowing...
